The Deparment of Commerce & Insurance (CID) has graciously agreed to meet with any locksmith to answer any questions regaring the upcoming licensing law and to provide information packets and applications. This is your opportunity to become well-informed and get a head-start on obtaining your soon-to-be manditory license.

Please note that CID will NOT be accepting applications at this meeting, however, they will be able to review any applications for errors. Applications must be submitted per instructions included in the packet (i.e. mail or submitted in person to the cashier at CID headquarters).

If you have questions regarding the licensing program that you wish to present to CID, we strongly suggest that you email them ahead of time. All questions will be collected by TOOL and presented to CID in advance so that they may be researched and answered as accurately as possible during the meeting. We (the TOoL board and membership) feel this is far superior to simply yelling questions out during the meeting.

Application packets, including fingerprint cards, will be available at the meeting, but are also available for download and printing from CID's website:

A note on fingerprinting:

Please be aware that a cheaper, faster, and superior option to ink-and-card fingerprinting (which must be completed by a certified fingerprint technician) is electronic submission via cogent systems:

Applicants may submit fingerprint cards (2) for processing for a fee of $60, or be fingerprinted and electronically submitted to CID via Cogent for $48, which is available at dozens of locations statewide:

You must register to be fingerprinted first! You can register via an online form, or print and fill out to take with you.

Cogent locations will only accept money orders as payment, however, you can also prepay online via credit card. If you choose to pay online, you will need to bring both your payment proof code and registration information to the Cogent affiliate.
